Bahrain Mirror: Water statistics and studies which covered all countries in the world, according to al-Wasat local newspaper, showed that Bahrain reached lowest levels of water poverty in terms of annual cubic meter water consumption per capita. On another hand, Bahrain was ranked third place for the fourth year in a row, among the countries with highest rate of electric power consumption per capita.

The information asserted that Bahrain consumed more than 100% of its total production of desalinated water, despite the lack of other water resources. Moreover, the kingdom was among the 46 countries in the world that face water scarcity problems (2.7 billion people).

The spokesperson of the land, water and environment department at the University of Jordan, Ayman Suleiman, said during a workshop for journalists on water issues in the Middle East and North Africa, "Bahrain occupies the 169 rank internationally in having water problem. That per capita consumption of water in cubic meter during the year is 181; a number which also fell in recent years, meaning it is starting to reach the lowest levels of annual water scarcity per capita."

Furthermore, Associate Professor at the Hashemite University, Mohammed Al-Qinna, stressed "the importance of using renewable energy in generating power, like depending on social energy." "I mean that there are no projects in the majority of Gulf and Middle East countries, which adopt finding sustainable energy resources, which ensure the continuation of desalination projects."
