Bahrain Mirror: The Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa issued Edict 35/2023 establishing and forming the National Human Rights Committee.

The edict stipulated that the Committee shall be chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. It stated that the committee is responsible for coordination with government organizations in all matters related to human rights, particularly establishing a coordination mechanism to ensure the best policies for dealing with human rights issues; preparing responses to statements and inquiries issued by organizations and associations inside and outside the Kingdom, related to human rights; and preparing reports that the Kingdom of Bahrain is committed to present in implementation of the agreements to which the Kingdom has joined in the human rights field.

Former president of Salam for Democracy and Human Rights Jawad Fairooz criticized the announcement of the formation of the committee "without the membership of any of the civil society human rights institutions, not even the National Institute for Human Rights."
