Bahrain Mirror: The Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) monitored more than 65 human rights violations committed by the regime against citizens in May 2023.
The center mentioned in a report that the violations included "summonses, arrests, and storming of areas, in addition to attacks on political prisoners," noting that "the most prominent of these violations was the arrest of the preacher of the Imam Al-Sadiq Mosque, peace be upon him, in Diraz, Sheikh Mohammad Sanqour, on May 22, over a sermon in which he condemned normalization and changing of curricula and demanded to reveal the fate of political prisoners." The center went on to say that Sheikh Sanqour was released later on 25 May.
The center documented the arrest of 5 citizens from different areas, including Sanabis and Abu Quwa, in addition to a series of summons against at least 15 citizens, including activists, fathers of martyrs, and citizens. The center said that the authorities summoned head of Sanabis Ma'atam Hassan Al-Moalemah, for interrogation over the reception of scholar Sheikh Mohammad Sanqour, following his release.
Among the violations monitored by the center are the heightened security alerts in the areas, in addition to setting up checkpoints and roadblocks in the streets, especially in Sanabis, Abu Quwa and Diraz.
With regard to the ongoing violations against political prisoners in Jaw Central Prison, the center monitored a series of attacks against political prisoners who demanded to guarantee their rights, provide them with health care, and stop reprisals against them, most notably the collective punishment of prisoners in building 6, ward 1 and 2, after they protested against being transferred to other cells in order to relinquish the place to foreign criminals.
The center also noted that death row inmates were severely beaten after prison guards stormed the building under the pretext of inspection, while the prison administration took the two death row prisoners, Mohammad Ramadan and Hussein Marzouq, to an unknown destination outside the building.
The center documented about 70 peaceful protests in 10 areas most notably, Sanabis, Damistan and Diraz.
