Bahrain Mirror: The Chairman of the Supreme Council of Justice and the Head of the Court of Cassation Salem Al-Kuwari justified the sentences stripping the nationalities of a large number of Bahrainis over political charges, pointing out that legal texts allow the revocation of citizenships.
"Countries Like France and the United Kingdom are currently on the same track of thinking. There are people who want to exaggerate the issue", he said in an interview with Al-Wasat newspaper.
"The judge is not an adversary of the parties the (accused, the prosecutor, and the lawyer), as well as the prosecution member and the policeman are not adversaries of any of these parties. The main adversary is the legal and constitutional text, and based on it one is either acquitted, convicted, or given a right or deprived of it; the adverseness between the members of the community is with legal texts not with individuals nor with their statuses," he claimed.
It is noteworthy that the judges are appointed by decrees issued by King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, which is considered by human rights organizations a reason for the judiciary's lack of independence.
