Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): The News Time website stated that Witness Bahrain will be presented at the Ridgefield Playhouse on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Jen Marlowe, a New York and Seattle-based human rights activist and author. Marlowe will speak with Nabeel Rajab during his participation in the Ridgefield program via Skype, during the Q&A portion of the event.

Linda Tuccio-Koonz said that Witness Bahrain, the award-winning documentary is an eye-opening look into Bahrain two years after the Arab Spring, and sheds light on some heartbreaking realities.

Koonz further stated that "when Marlowe was there, she uncovered stories of doctors who were arrested and tortured for treating wounded protestors, and of nurses who were caring for injured youths at underground clinics."

"The renowned filmmaker learned about children who were killed or arrested by riot police. She also filmed while hiding upstairs in the home of prominent human rights defender Nabeel Rajab, as the police came to take him to prison. His crime? Sending Tweets to which the regime objected," Koonz added.

Koonz; however, uncovered how Marlowe entered Bahrain saying that "with the Bahrain government denying entry to all but a few journalists and human rights defenders, Marlowe entered the country under false pretenses; she said she was visiting a friend. And, though she filmed her documentary in secret, she was ultimately deported by the Bahraini regime."

"Her compelling hour-long film, cut from guerrilla-style footage shot with a small, handheld camera, captures an intimate, in-depth portrayal of the government's violent repression of Bahrain's pro-democracy movement," Koonz highlighted.

Charles Mudede, of Seattle's alternative weekly newspaper, The Stranger, said Witness Bahrain is "fearless, insightful, and has a big heart for those who are in this long but beautiful struggle."

In addition to Witness Bahrain, which came out in 2015, Marlowe's award-winning films include One Family in Gaza, Rebuilding Hope and Darfur Diaries.
