Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain witnessed the eruption of protests on Sunday (March 13, 2016) in a number of areas across the country, calling for the withdrawal of Saudi forces, which entered Bahrain five years ago to help the ruling Al Khalifa family crush the popular nationwide protests that erupted in the LuLu (Pearl) Roundabout in the heart of the Bahraini capital Manama.
Demonstrators, who took to the streets west and south of Manama, described the Saudi troops as "occupation forces", stressing that the ruling Al Khalifa family has no right to threaten Bahrain's independence for the sake of maintaining its control over power.
Under the slogan "Your occupation is under our feet", the revolutionary opposition parties called for protests to voice their rejection of the continued Saudi presence in the kingdom, urging all Bahrainis to take part in the demonstrations to be organized throughout the next few days.
Some shops closed their doors in pro-opposition areas to express their support for these demands.
Bahraini security forces cracked down on the peaceful protestors, using shotgun pellets and toxic tear gas in various villages across the island kingdom, including Sitra, Nuwaidrat, A'ali and Al-Musala. Government forces also pursued the demonstrators into residential areas which they flooded with poisonous smog.
