Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): Bahrainis took to the streets on Monday (March 14, 2016) on the fifth anniversary of the Saudi forces' invasion of the country to help the ruling Al Khalifa crush the popular nationwide protests which took the LuLu (Pearl) Roundabout, in Bahrain's capital Manama, as the hub of demonstrations.

Various areas across the island kingdom witnessed protests and clashes with security forces, who used shotgun pellets (birdshot) and toxic tear gas in their crackdown on protestors.

Many shops closed their doors in response to the calls issued by the February 14 Youth Coalition, which has been organizing daily protests since 5 years ago.

The pro-democracy demonstrators called for the withdrawal of Saudi and Emirati troops, stressing that they are considered "occupation" forces and that the ruling family has no right to jeopardize Bahrain's independence.

The opposition in Bahrain demands putting an end to the Al Khalifa family's monopoly over power, who confront opposers of the regime by force with the support of Gulf States.

Over 160 Bahrainis have been killed since the eruption of protests in February 14, 2011, while around 4,000 dissenters have been arrested, including protest leaders.
