Bahrain Mirror: The United States Department of State was confronted with questions raised about human rights activist Zainab Al-Khawaja's arrest for fourth consecutive time.
The State Department's Spokesperson John Kirby reiterated the same response by calling on Bahrain "to follow due process in all cases and to abide by its commitment to transparent judicial proceedings," refraining from demanding Zainab Al-Khawaja's release and further stressing that "nothing's changed" with regards to the US stance towards this case.
It is noteworthy that the US State Department faced a number of questions in the past few days following the arrest of Al-Khawaja. It; however, refused to called on its ally, Bahrain, to release Al-Khawaja, only urging the kingdom to abide by its commitment to "transparent" judicial proceedings.
Meanwhile, the presidential candidate who recently withdrew from the 2016 elections, Republican Senator Marco Rubio, called for Al-Khawaja's release on Friday (March 18, 2016).
