Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini Parliament passed a bill on Tuesday (March 22, 2016) which stipulates that the jurisdiction to appoint an assistant secretary-general of the council be withdrawn from the parliament speaker and given to the king.
This decision came in opposition to the recommendation of the legislative and legal committee which for its part rejected the proposed law.
MP Khaled Al-Shaer defended this decision and said it will distance the parliament and its general secretariat from the political polarization and guarantees stability. The parliament speaker's first deputy Ali Al-Aradi also backed this move, stressing that having the assistant secretary-general be approved by king will "guarantee neutrality and independence."
