Bahrain: Thousands Protest Marking Anniversary of Demolition of 40 Shiite Mosques

Bahrain Mirror: Thousands of Bahrainis took to the streets west of the capital Manama on Friday (March 25, 2016) to denounce the regime's demolition of about 40 Shiite mosques 5 years ago, as part of widespread campaign backed by Saudi forces to punish protestors calling for putting an end to the ruling Al Khalifa family's monopoly over power.

Demonstrators held photos of bulldozers demolishing the ancient four-century-old Mohammad Al-Barbaghi Mosque, before the authorities rebuilt it in site distant from its original one in an attempt to provoke the Shiite citizens, who constitute the majority of the country's population.

Protestors chanted slogans condemning the crime and the authorities delay in reconstructing these demolished mosques.

Demonstrators also held photos of the late prominent Shiite cleric Sayed Jawad Al-Wedai, who passed away last Monday. Al-Wedai was one of the top Bahraini clerics who supported the protestors' demands.
