Mogherini: The Issue in Bahrain is "Political", Latest Measures Taken by Bahraini Gov't Hinder Reconciliation

Bahrain Mirror-Exclusive: The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, said that the situation in Bahrain is not just a human rights issue but also a geopolitical issue.
Mogherini added in an intervention in front of the European Parliament that was discussing a resolution in a plenary session that the European Union expressed its concerns about the latest developments that are hindering the national conciliation in the country, stressing the importance of political reform in Bahrain.
She added "during the visit of Mr. Stavros Lambrinidis (EU Special Representative for Human Rights) to Bahrain, we called for the release of activists and political detainees," stressing that the EU will keep on calling for the release of peaceful activists, including prominent human right defender Nabeel Rajab.
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, urged the Government of Bahrain to reconsider its decision to suspend Al-Wefaq and toughening its Secretary-General Sheikh Ali Salman.
Mogherini further stated that there are a lot of worrying news about Bahrain, highlighting that the European Union will continue "contacting the Bahraini authorities to protect and promote human rights."
