Bahrain Mirror: Bahraini Al-Wasat newspaper said that the Bahraini authorities refused to give baby Sayed Ali Qassim Majeed (6 months old ) a Bahraini citizenship, because his father's nationality was revoked. The newspaper stressed that, Sayed Ali, who is still an infant, does not have any identification card or travel document, although he lives in his home country Bahrain.
According to the local paper, the infant's mother had tried before his birth, and throughout the past six months, to issue any kind of identification paper to manage his affairs in Bahrain. However, her request to issue a passport or any identification document was denied each time.
His mother, Balqis Al-Manami, who happens to be a lawyer, said that now her movement and actions are restricted, since she cannot travel without him, and since the authorities are not providing her with a passport for her son, they are therefore indirectly imposing a travel ban on her.
"Before the birth of my son, I went to the Department of Citizenship and Passports several times to inquire about his legal status when he is born. I was told that he shall not be given the Bahraini citizenship, since at the time of his birth, his father's citizenship had been revoked, and therefore no child can be granted the Bahraini citizenship had his father not hold it at the time of the birth," she added.
"What I ask now is that I receive a humane insight into the request I'm asking from the authorities, to issue a temporary travel document for my son, just to manage for now the conduct of affairs. I ask that he is given the Bahraini citizenship since I am a native Bahraini. This child is not guilty of anything, and he has the right to have an identity in his country," Al-Manami further stressed,
Al-Manami called upon the Supreme Council for Women to follow up this issue since it is related to an infant, who is not in any way linked to what is happening in this world.
