Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's Second High Appeal Criminal Court upheld on Wednesday (November 16, 2016) a court verdict, acquitting two Public Security servicemen of charges of assaulting the bodily integrity of detainees.

The Public Prosecution accused the two policemen, along with other unknown suspects, of assaulting the bodily integrity of the victims on November 18, 2015, leaving them injured as mentioned in the medical report.

The details of the case read that the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) received a report from the Reform and Rehabilitation Directorate on November 18, 2015, stating that a number of detainees claimed they were beaten by policemen. Two SIU officers immediately headed to the said directorate and listened to the victims' statements on the incident. The Unit's forensic physician was assigned to examine the detainees and determine their injuries. The SIU then interrogated the two accused policemen and ordered their pre-trial detention pending investigations, and referred them to court.

The first degree court decided to acquit the accused of the charges raised against them due to  insufficient evidence.

The SIU appealed the verdict, yet the Appeals court upheld the court decision acquitting the two policemen.
