Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini Appeal Court upheld (Thursday December 22, 2016), a death penalty verdict against a citizen, and a life imprisonment sentence against 14 others accused of killing a Jordanian officer in clashes in the town of Dumistan, wester of the capital Manama.

Bahraini authorities accused 23 citizens in the opposition of establishing a terrorist group, and joining it to kill a police officer while during his duty. They are also accused of killing a civilian, causing a bomb, using and possessing explosives and weapons.

The court also upheld a citizen revocation sentence against all defendants, while it fined 2 among them an amount of 200 thousands Bahraini Dinars.

The Interior Ministry had announced the death of a Jordanian police officer, Ali Mohammad Ali Zuraiqat, in December 2014 in the west Manama town of Dumistan.

On their part, the defendants denied in court all the charges brought against them, and said they were tortured to extract their documented confessions.

According to international organizations, security authorities in Bahrain use systematic torture to extract confessions from political detainees, to be used against them in court.
