Bahrain Mirror: After the Bahraini authorities announced the execution of three Bahraini political prisoners, the British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson merely reiterated the United Kingdom's opposing stance towards the death penalty, noting that he has raised the issue with the government in Bahrain.
Johnson issued a statement in response to the execution today. It is noteworthy that he did not officially condemn the execution of the death penalty by the Bahraini authorities. He also did not address the case over which the three Bahrainis, who time and time again asserted in their trials that they were subjected to torture in order to make false confessions, were executed.
"The UK is firmly opposed to the death penalty, and it is our longstanding position to oppose capital sentences in all circumstances. The Bahraini authorities are fully aware of our position and I have raised the issue with the Bahraini Government," Johnson said in the statement.
