Bahrain Mirror- Exclusive: Amnesty International launched a countdown campaign on Twitter for the release of Dr. Ali Al-Ekri who is supposed to be released on 10 March, for serving his 5-year jail term.
The organization said that this campaign aims at ensuring that the authorities do not detain Dr. Al-Ekri any longer.
Amnesty called for a Twitter action from 1 - 10 March and to post a tweet everyday containing the following expression: "We are waiting for you @DrAlekri" in addition to the number of remaining days for his release. The organization also called to mention @moi_Bahrain and @Khaled_Bin_Ali in the tweet.
Dr Ali Al-Ekri is a prisoner of conscience who is imprisoned solely for standing up for his patients and criticizing the excessive use of force used by security forces during the February/March 2011 uprising. He is the last remaining imprisoned Bahrain medic arrested in 2011.
