Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain Center for Human Rights member Safaa Al-Khawaja said that the police are harassing hunger strikers in Jaw Central Prison.

In a statement (Wednesday March 8, 2017), according to the families of some detainees in Jaw Prison, the officer in charge summoned the hunger strikers, and orders to handcuff them from 6:00 pm until 1:00 am. With him there would be an officer who verbally harasses the detainees.

Moreover, Al-Khawaja said "the prison administration asked the hunger strikers to end their strike, yet the strikers refused to do so". Meanwhile, the health status of one of the detainees on hunger strike deteriorated and he was transferred to the prison clinic, while refused to treat him. He was also severely beaten on his way to the clinic, after which he was returned to his cell.

Detainees at Jaw Central Prison launched a hunger strike in response to reducing the visiting time to half an hour only, separating detained brothers during weekly family visits, and placing glass barriers between the detainees and their families.

Opposition figures detained at Jaw had refrained from any family visits in protests against these actions.
