Bahrain Mirror: Thousands of Bahrainis took part in the funeral procession of poet Mansour Al Mubarak (45 years old) in the village of Aali south of the Bahraini capital Manama. The late poet passed away after suffering from an illness throughout the past year.

Al Mubarak, who was known for his religious and social activities, was one of the victims of the emergency law (State of National Safety) imposed by the authorities back in 2011, as he was arrested in March of that year. Al Mubarak was subjected to torture in the Riffa police station, where martyr Abdul Rasoul Al-Houjeiri (Al Mubarak's brother-in-law) is believed to have been killed.

On his Twitter account, journalist Hassan Mahfouz said that he asked Al Mubarak after his release, "what was more brutal to you, your arrest in the 1990s or in 2011?" "My arrest in 2011 was brief, yet much more brutal, because they tortured us out of sectarian malice," he replied.

Al Mubarak was arrested during the 1900s uprising, which called for reinstating the parliament that was dissolved after it rejected the State Security Law. The country at the time witnessed widespread human rights violations.

The late poet was the son of cleric Sheikh Ibrahim Al Mubarak, whose books and poetry had a great impact on him.
