Bahrain Mirror: Dozens of protests took to the streets across Bahrain on the eve of the trial held for Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim, the country's most prominent Shiite leader. It is expected that a local court issues a verdict against him tomorrow Sunday (May 7, 2017).
Demonstrations took place in Barbar, Al-Sihla, Karbabad, Saar, Abu Saiba, and several other areas north and south of the capital Manama, with protesters raising banners with photos for Sheikh Qassim. A lawyer familiar with the trial details said that "the expected verdict is limited to either imprisonment, acquittal, or case reinstatement and postponement of verdict issuance."
Ayatollah Qassim is being tried over the Khums Shiite ritual, which allows prominent clerics to collect money and spend it in the interest of Muslims.
The police forces intervened to disperse a protest in the town of Karbabad near the capital Manama, which witnessed one of the biggest marches.
The wave of protests comes after prominent Bahraini Shiite scholars called on the Bahrainis to take the streets in public mobilization to defend Ayatollah Qassim.
All Bahraini opposition forces had called for a huge participation in the rage protests in rejection of the unfair trial.
