Bahrain Mirror: The Fourth High Criminal Court today issued on Monday (June 19, 2017) death penalty sentence against the first suspect, life imprisonment against the second one and 3-year jail term against 7 others over Al-Ekr blast that claimed the life of Fakhriya Msallam. The court also revoked the citizenships of the two first suspects.
The authorities claim that a blast took place on Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on June 30, 2016, which led to the death of Fakhriya Msallam. Following the explosion, the Public Prosecution ordered probe into the incident and the perpetrators. It found that a fugitive suspect, who currently lives in Iran and works for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, requested two suspects to carry out the explosion in a bid to target police patrols and kill on-duty security personnel. He then provided them with the explosive device. After that, they monitored the police movement in the area and placed the explosive device in the crime site and detonated it while the victim was driving by with children on board her car, which led to their injury. Then, the first suspect fled after carrying the explosion and he was hidden by a number of defendants. The suspects were arrested afterwards and referred to the Public Prosecution according to the legal procedures in force.
The Public Prosecution levelled the charges against the suspects based on testimonies from the witnesses, the confessions of the defendants, as well as the video footage of the cctv cameras.
