Bahrain Mirror: Saudi Arabia executed four people convicted of terrorism in Qatif in the eastern part of the kingdom, state television said on Tuesday (July 11, 2017) quoting a statement by the Interior Ministry.

The executions come amid rising tensions in the oil producing eastern province, where many members of the country's Shi'ite Muslim minority live, Reuters stated.

The ministry's statement said the four had been convicted of taking up weapons against the government, joined armed groups and attacked a police station and security patrols.

Authorities executed activists Amjad Al-Muaibed, Yousef al-Mushaikhes, Zaher al-Basri and Mahdi al-Sayegh.

Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch has confirmed early last June that Saudi Arabia aims at executing death row sentences against 14 nationals, all from the Shiite sect. The two international human rights organization confirmed that trials the dissidents underwent were "unfair", politically motivated and linked to political protests.
