Bahrain Mirror: The head of the Bahrain Forum Human Rights (BFHR), Baqer Darwish, revealed that the Chief of the Terror Crimes Prosecution is one of the state security officers accused of torture in the 1990s and also accused of covering up torture crimes committed against dissidents.
In an interview on the LuaLua TV channel, Darwish stressed that human rights activism in Bahrain will not stop no matter how strict the authorities' security measures and acts of intimidation are.

"The authorities are launching a campaign aimed at eliminating the remaining margins of space that a number of human rights groups are using, especially with the absence of the international will that would pressure them to implement their international obligations," he added.

Darwish further confirmed that human rights activist Ebtisam Al-Sayegh was tortured, noting that the head of the prosecution would confess to standing behind terrorist cells if he were to be subjected to what Al-Sayegh went through.

"The terrorism law has only been used, since it was passed with its amendments, against the opposition, which proves the political objective behind adopting this law, despite the violations therein," highlighted the BFHR head.

Darwish concluded his statement by pointing out that "the authorities are taking advantage of the new dispute with its former sister Qatar to link the Shia citizens to a well-known human rights organization recognized by the United Nations, but which they (Bahraini authorities) describe as a terrorist organization (Alkarama)."
