Bahrain Mirror- Exclusive: Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (BIRD) said that the Public Prosecution brought new charges against prominent human rights activist and President of Bahrain Center for Human Rights, Nabeel Rajab, over the background of social media posts on Twitter and Instagram.
The institute explained in a statement on its website on Monday (September 18, 2017) that the social media posts he was questioned about were made when he was already in police custody in January 2017, where he had no internet access.
Sayed Ahmed Al-Wadaei, Director of BIRD said that "These new charges are utterly ridiculous. Nabeel Rajab was in Bahraini police custody when the social media posts he is charged for were made."
"They know he didn't make them, but they will go to any lengths to keep him in prison at all costs," he added.
The Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy called to drop all the charges against Rajab, stop harassing him judicially and release him immediately.
