Kuwait Emir Warns against Gulf Crisis Potential Escalation

Bahrain Mirror: The Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah warned of the serious consequences and risks of escalation of the Gulf crisis.
In an address to parliament, the Emir stressed that "everyone should know that Kuwait's mediation is based on a keen awareness that this crisis risks escalation," adding that an escalation "would be an explicit invitation for regional and international intervention, which would have serious consequences for the security of the Gulf nations and their people."
Emir Al-Sabah further stated that Kuwait's mediation efforts are not a mediation in the traditional sense, noting that they are not "a third party in this crisis," but rather "a party of one with the other two brother-nations in this crisis."
He also highlighted that Kuwait's only goal was to save the Gulf Cooperation Council union from "cracking and collapsing".
"History and future generations will not forgive anyone who contributes, even one word, to fueling this dispute," added the Emir.
The Emir of Kuwait said in Washington last month that his country's mediation succeeded in keeping the specter of military action out of the Gulf.
Kuwait has led a mediation since the eruption of the Gulf crisis between Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates on the one hand and Qatar on the other on June 5, 2017. A land, sea and air blockade were imposed on Qatar after the four countries severed ties with the country on the pretext of its support of terrorism.
