Al-Wefaq Sees Wa’ad Society Dissolution as “Political Bankruptcy”

Bahrain Mirror: The National Islamic Al-Wefaq Society considered that the Court of Appeal's decision to uphold the dissolution of the National Democratic Action Society (Wa'ad) "reflects the political bankruptcy the regime is experiencing."

Al-Wefaq said that the closure of Wa'ad would widen the scale of the regime's predicament,  and prove that all the conditions for building a stable natural state have been destroyed by the the authorities' adoption of oppression and absence of a reform mentality.

The Society further noted that that the regime's decision to dissolve Wa'ad clearly reveals the government's empty promises of implementing the reform project, stressing that the absence of Wa'ad is an absence of a national component that believes in achieving social justice, a radical transformation towards democracy and contributing to building the state of institutions and law.

Al-Wefaq also highlighted that Wa'ad is not a building or headquarters, but a reformist political movement with historical and nationalistic aspects. "This presence will remain a major party in any comprehensive democratic political process. Arbitrary decisions can not eliminate this role despite the adoption of the Political Societies Law, whose articles were drawn to limit the role of political societies and  interfere in their activities."

"The lawsuit against Wa'ad is void and the decision is invalid, and will not achieve the political objectives of the authorities," Al-Wefaq added.

Al-Wefaq stressed that the absence of the national reconciliation project, the blocking of any horizon for a political solution and the suffocation of the regime due to its inflammatory and failed choices would lead to such steps, which blatantly undermine all the political freedom that state institutions promote. However, such arbitrary measures will only further discredit Bahrain on the international level and classify the gulf island as a state that prevents fundamental freedoms and also fights against political liberties.
