Bahrain Mirror: The High Criminal Court of Appeals issued a decision upholding the imprisonment of a Bahraini woman (47 years old) for issuing a check worth 4500 Bahraini dinars for travel tickets, it later turned out that the bank account from which the check was issued was closed.
According to a local newspaper, the suspect has more than 20 precedents on her record, most of which were the issuance of checks without balance. The accused deceived people into thinking that she works for a tourism agency and can offer them round flight tickets at very cheap prices, so a large number of customers fell for her scheme and after buying the tickets discovered that they were one-way tickets. Many were found stranded at airports and paid large sums of money to return. When they were requested their money back, she gave them checks which they later find out to be checks without balance. The value of all these checks she gave amounted to about a quarter million dinars (255 thousand dinars).
In this case, the appellant issued a fake check of BD 4,500, as compensation for the travel tickets a woman had bought for herself and her family in order to return home, after they found out that they were victims of a sham.
