Bahrain Mirror- Exclusive: A Bahraini appeals court upheld on Wednesday (November 22, 201) a 2-year jail verdict against prominent human rights defender and president of Bahrain Center for Human Rights, Nabeel Rajab, over television interviews he made with foreign media outlets.
The authorities accuse Nabeel Rajab of disseminating false news over television interviews in which he talked about human rights violations in the country.
On July 10, 2017, a first-instance court sentenced Rajab to two years in prison. Meanwhile, US expressed disappointment about the verdict against Rajab, calling on to drop the charges against him and release him immediately.
However, Rajab who was arrested on June 13, 2016 is persecuted over another case. If convicted, Rajab might face up to 10 years in jail over tweets criticizing war on Yemen and torture in Jaw prison.
