Bahrain Mirror: A Bahraini MP denied receiving any amendments by the government regarding the current retirement system.
Majeed Al-Asfour said that "the Commission of inquiry into the pension funds of social insurance authority didn't receive from the Commission or any governmental party anything with regards to changes in pension legislations followed in the Kingdom of Bahrain."
He added that "the Commission had already mentioned in meetings with the Committee about perceptions that comply with natural development of the Commission's assets. The number of participants and beneficiaries is submitted to the Government; however, the Commission didn't mention that the government is about to make changes to pension benefits received by retirees to date."
Local newspapers have raised the possibility of raising the retirement age and abolishing early retirement in the context of facing the commission's actuarial deficit.
