Bahraini Court Upholds 3-10 Year Sentences for 10 Bahrainis Accused of “Illegal Assembly and Assaulting Police with Molotov Cocktails”

Bahrain Mirror: The Fifth High Criminal Court of Appeals in Bahrain upheld 10 and 3 year prison terms issued against 10 defendants, accused of assaulting police with Molotov cocktails on Budaya Street, participating in an assembly and making incendiary containers.

The Public Prosecution referred the defendants to trial after accusing 11 of them of assaulting the safety of a member of the public security forces "policeman" on December 3, 2016, while and because he was performing of his duty resulting in the injuries described in the medical reports, as well as participating in a gathering of more than 5 persons intended to disturb public security, and acquired and had possession of incendiary devices.

It charged the third to ninth defendants with manufacturing flammable bottles, with the intention of using them to endanger the lives of people.

The First Instance Court had sentenced 10 defendants to prison, 5 to 10 years and 5 others to 3 years, while acquitting another for insufficient evidence. The defendants appealed the sentence before the appeals court which upheld the verdict.
