Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain has lost the services of 117 doctors, according to official figures issued by the Ministry of Health. The statistics show that the number of physicians in the public health sector declined over the past four years by 9.1%.
The statistics showed an annual decline in the number of doctors. In 2015, the number declined to 1,270, in 2016 to 1,202, and the number dropped to 1,160 last year, which means 42 doctors in one year.
Health services have deteriorated in the country since the military took over the ministry's administration in March 2011.
However, the Ministry tried to minimize the impact, saying that 26 had retired regularly, 14 retired early and 37 resigned administratively.
As for the number of dentists, the Ministry said that they amounted to 131 in 2014, 134 in 2015 and 2016, and 130 in 2017.
In a related context, the Ministry of Health said that the number of patients registered in government health centers reached 865,859 people, with 316 doctors distributed in those centers, which means there is one doctor for every 2,740 people.
