Bahrain Mirror: The First High Criminal Court issued a 10-year jail term against a suspect accused of drug trafficking and 5000 BD fine and ordered the confiscation of seized narcotics.

The Public Prosecution accused the suspect of illegally bringing hashish, on 26/5/2017, aiming at trafficking them and illegally obtaining hashish, morphine and other narcotics aiming at using them.

The security officer at King Fahd Causeway felt suspicious about a man because he was confused when he reached the customs point. The officer asked the suspect and the driver if they wanted to tell him anything, however, they said no. Thus, the officer admitted them to the searching room, searched them by himself and found a large piece of hashish of 270.8 g.

It was proved that the seized item was hashish and it was hidden in the suspect's underwear. The suspect admitted that he smuggled hashish worth BD18,000 for sale in Bahrain. Anti-narcotics Directorate was tipped-off about them after taking a urine sample from the suspect and after the sample showed that it contains hashish, morphine, Clonazepam, and Nitrazepam.

The Court indicated in its merits that it treated the accused with a measure of clemency within the limits of Article 72 of the Penal Code.
