Bahrain Mirror: A member of the British House of Lords called on the UK Ambassador to Thailand to intervene and assist the Australian authorities in ensuring the safe return of Bahraini refugee Hakeem Al-Araibi to Australia.

In an official letter from Lord Paul Scriven to British Ambassador to Bangkok Brian Davidson, Scriven expressed his extreme concern over the safety of Al-Araibi, stressing his alarm at the Thai authorities' decision to even consider Al-Araibi's extradition to Bahrain, noting that it lacks legal basis and is putting Al-Araibi at risk of torture.

He further urged Ambassador Davidson to "support the Australian authorities in their endeavor to ensure the safe return of Mr. Al-Araibi to his home in Melbourne." "Perhaps you could to make urgent representations to the Thai authorities and ensure you are aware of any updates in this ordeal," he added.

Scriven had asked the British government on December 12 whether they made representations to the government of Thailand about the detention of Bahraini refugee Hakeem Al-Araibi and its plans to extradite him to Bahrain despite reports of him having been tortured in that country for his involvement in political protests.
