Bahrain Mirror: The family of detainee Mortada Al-Miqdad announced Mortada needs to resume medical check-ups urgently, so that he would not lose his eyesight completely, and be provided with medical supplies.
Human rights activist Ebtisam Al-Sayegh said on Saturday (February 9th, 2019) on her Instagram page that Al-Miqdad family had informed her that he was suffering from a decline in vision due to the fact that Central Jaw Prison stopped his treatment and didn't allow him to receive medical eye drops.
She further stated that the family told her that "in the last phone call with Mortada, he complained of suffering from severe heat in his eyes after the suspension of his medication, which is also not allowed to be given to him through his parents, as well as continued denial of access to new medical contact lenses, forcing him to use the same pair continuously for three years, and even access to contact lens solution for sterilization."
Mortada, who is sentenced to five and a half years in prison, is being held on politically-motivated charges.
Many detainees and prisoners in Bahrain suffer from lack of access to necessary medical care and follow-up treatment, which is a basic right of prisoners.
