Bahrain Mirror: Detaini Ali Al-Haji sent a letter to British Minister of State for the Middle East, Alistair Burt, on the eve of the latter's visit to Bahrain, blaming him and the UK government for his deteriorating health condition.
Al-Haji said in a recorded message published on social media that he was surprised by the response he received from the minister regarding his health condition and the lack of medical care he receives, as the British minister referred his case to the concerned Bahrain state institutions.
Al-Haji explained that he contacted the Ombudsman General Secretariat and received no response. The Special Investigation Unit has full information about his torture and the damage he suffered under complaint No. 38 of 2013. He also contacted the National Institute for Human Rights but the Institute did not visit him in prison to document his case.
Al-Haji deemed them "sham nominal institutions whose role is to only polish the image of the authorities."
Al-Haji called on the British minister, who was visiting Bahrain, to put "more pressure on officials in Bahrain, and act upon your professional duty and the leading role of the United Kingdom in implementing human rights commitments."
Concluding his statement, he said: "I personally hold you, O Minister, partly accountable and complicit in the crime if my health condition deteriorates. Your previous response came to cover up the fact that the authorities in Bahrain violate the rights of prisoners and my personal right, which is not receiving treatment."
