SIU Says It Referred Policeman to Military Court over Offences He committed

Bahrain Mirror: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) said that it referred a public security member to the military court over offences he committed. The SIU said that it heard the statements of 29 plaintiffs and questioned 30 defendants of the public security members during the second trimester of this year (May, June, July, August 2019).
SIU Member Mohammed Yousif Al-Zubari revealed that the unit received 24 complaints during the same period, stating that they ranged between torture and physical abuse. He also said that the unit started investigation all these complaints.
The unit heard the statements of 29 plaintiffs and 23 witnesses, and questioned 30 defendants and suspects from the security forces. It referred 12 plaintiffs to the forensic doctor and two others to the psychiatrist in the unit.
The unit was established on the recommendation of Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry, headed by Bassiouni, its task is to investigate complaints of torture and ill-treatment by security forces.
