Bahrain Mirror: The Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society demanded to suspend trial of lawyer Abdullah Hashem and drop charges brought against him because they are related to freedom of opinion and expression.

The authorities had accused him of spreading false news despite being aware that it would harm the national security and public order.

The court decided on Monday (August 10, 2020) to postpone the trial until August 24.

Al-Wefaq stressed that the prosecution of anyone who speaks his opinion amid the very bad and difficult circumstances reflects the reality of the country and the dark tunnel in which it operates.

The society called to stop intimidation and prosecution of opinion-makers, frightening people of grievances, and torturing elites and citizens who demand justice and decent life.

Al-Wefaq concluded that Bahrain is living a very difficult reality in the face of stifling measures and restrictions and harsh economic and living conditions that coincide with the prevention of any objection or criticism in parallel with an unprecedented corruption by the rulers and those around them.
