Bahrain Mirror: The European Parliament votes today on a resolution on the human rights situation in the Kingdom of Bahrain, in particular the cases of death row inmates and human rights defenders.

The resolution noted that the Bahraini authorities proceed in commiting violations and restricting people's rights and freedoms, especially right to peaceful assembly, freedom of expression and digital freedom on the Internet.

The resolution criticized the ongoing systematic targeting, harassment, detention, torture, intimidation, travel ban, citizenship revocation as well as all the punishments practiced by the Bahraini authorities against activists, media people and lawyers.

It said that Bahrain does not tolerate any political opposition and has rejected all demands of the democratic opposition and human rights defenders.

It also criticized the arrest of children over charge of joining February 14 protests and revealed that many of them were threatened with rape and electric shocks.

The EU affirmed in its resolution its commitment to implement previous resolutions on Bahrain, particularly those issued in 2018 on human rights, including the case of Nabeel Rajab and death penalty cases, taking into account all UN resolutions on the promotion and protection of human rights in Bahrain and the report of the Special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. It also urged Bahrain to abolish the death sentences of Mohammad Ramadan and Hussein Mousa.

The EU expressed deep concern over the ongoing deterioration of the human rights situation in Bahrain as well as proceeding in executing death sentence, 10 years after the "Arab Spring", indicating that the arbitrary punishments, arrests, prosecution and harassment against human rights defender continue in the country.

It strongly condemned the death sentence issued against Mohammad Ramadan and Hussein Mousa and urged the Bahraini authorities to immediately halt these sentences and repeat the trials in a way that complies with international standards for a fair trial.

The union deplored the misuse of Terrorism Acts in Bahrain and the ongoing use of torture, including deprivation of medical care.

The European Union urged the government of Bahrain to allow medical access to the political prisoners who suffer severe health problems, like opposition leader Hasan Mushaima and academic Abduljalil Al-Singace.
