Bahrain Mirror: Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society issued a statement on Saturday (July 17, 2021), marking the day when the decision was made to dissolve the group by the politicized judiciary in Bahrain in 2016.
The Society said in its statement that "Al-Wefaq today is more confident and certain in Bahrain's need for a comprehensive political project that provides political guarantees that render the citizen a human being who enjoys all his political rights and freedoms and is able to live in peace, stability and unlimited ambition in all areas of life."
Below is the full statement:
Today, July 17, is the anniversary of the Bahraini regime's dissolution of Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society through its politicized judiciary-a memory that reflects a dark day in the history of justice, political action and diversity in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The regime has gouged out the eye of the nation, leaving it with one eye that only sees itself and its interests, not caring about the people, the country, the present or the future. The regime, by taking this crazy step, has isolated and marginalized the entirety of the people of Bahrain, and this has been proven by irrefutable evidence through its illegal practices and behavior, since Bahrain is [like] a farm owned by force and oppression, where no one is respected.
The regime, by closing down the Al-Wefaq buildings and freezing its work, has decided to end everything save the regime and its choir. There is no longer any religious, political, or social pluralism, or anything but the regime and those in charge. They are the ones who decide, execute, steal, loot, kill and rule while the rest of the people pay tribute and taxes and remain silent. There is no place for anyone but the regime and those accepted by it.
Al-Wefaq is a great and authentic popular entity in this country, which is respected by all patriotic Bahrainis who do not subsist on the regime's grants and sectarian and retaliatory policies. All the people of Bahrain, including all its components, see in Al-Wefaq great hope, concern for the homeland, trustworthiness with its resources, and the defender of the rights of all, who looks forward to the well-being and happiness of everyone, and does not tolerate injustice, oppression or starvation inflicted on any of the people of this country.
Al-Wefaq still stands with all its people despite all the harsh conditions and calls for a state of institutions and law, a state of equal citizenship, and a strong and capable state that is respected and appreciated by all, where citizens enjoy safety for themselves, their families, and the future of their children, and live in dignity, citizens whose voices and opinions are respected after they were stolen from him under false and deceptive pretenses in the past years.
Al-Wefaq today is more certain of Bahrain's need for a comprehensive political project that provides political guarantees that render the citizen a human being who enjoys all his political rights and freedoms and is able to live in peace, stability and unlimited ambition in all areas of life, ranging from businessmen to academics, political and professional elites, workers and civil and military servants, students, creators, media professionals, and various professionals, male and female students, and all categories of society, who were not spared the oppression, harassment, and false attempts to entice and intimidate.
Al-Wefaq believes that now it is time for this country to become stable, but there is no stability without the consent and acceptance of all its people, and there is no return to that unless the authorities back down from everything that disturbs the peace of life, establishing justice and achieving a political transition to a modern state, as indicated by the National Action Charter, in a constitutional monarchy that would be comparable to the prominent constitutional monarchies of the world.
