Bahrain Mirror: Foreign Affairs Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani said that Bahrain respects the legitimate decisions and the ruling of the International Court of Justice without prejudice to the historical and legal rights of the Kingdom, based on the principle of uti possidetis juris, and in accordance with Legislative Decree No. 8 of 1993 on the Territorial Sea and Contiguous Zone of Bahrain.
On March 16, 2001, the International Court of Justice stated that Qatar has sovereignty over Zubarah, Janan Island and Fasht ad Dibal and that that Bahrain has sovereignty over the Hawar Islands and the island of Qit'at Jaradah.
In response to a question by Member of the Council of Representatives Mohammed Al Sisi Al-Buainain about the information published in the French magazine "Le Point" by Ian Hampel on November 3, 2021, regarding the ruling issued by the International Court of Justice, Al-Zayani said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following up on the stated legal arguments and evidence in line with the principles of international law and that are under careful research and study.
He added that Bahrain stresses the importance of resolving border disputes between the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) through peaceful means.
