Bahrain Mirror: Democratic Senator Ben Cardin from Maryland called for the immediate and unconditional release of the detained Bahraini academic and human rights activist Abduljalil Al-Singace.
"No one may be held behind bars for exercising the internationally guaranteed rights to freedom of expression and association," he said in a tweet on his official Twitter page.
Ben Cardin also called for the release of all political prisoners in Bahrain.
The Bahraini dissident was sentenced to life imprisonment in a military trial in June 2011, and the verdict was upheld in the appeals court in 2012 and in the cassation stage as well in 2013.
Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain describes Al-Singace as one of the "Bahrain 13" group that includes political leaders who were arrested for their role in Bahrain's democratic movement in 2011. He was sentenced to life in prison for attempting to overthrow the government.
