Bahrain Mirror: Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) condemned the policy of deliberate medical negligence against elderly political prisoner Mohamed Hasan Abdulla AlRamal and the disregard for the seriousness of his health condition.
In a statement on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, the human rights organization explained that there was "a dangerous development in the case of political prisoner Mohamed Hasan Abdulla (AlRamal), who has been isolated in Building 2 of Jaw Prison since 23 May 2024, after he was taken to a medical appointment at the military hospital."
The statement added that "AlRamal was taken to a medical appointment at the Military Hospital, but instead of being returned to his cell in Building 8, he was placed in a cell that lacks the most basic necessities of life despite his dire health condition."
In response to this, ADHRB highlighted that Mohamed Hasan AlRamal started a new hunger strike, protesting political reprisal and discrimination that led to years of medical neglect, worsening his health and leading to a dangerous drop in his blood sugar level, bleeding, and abdominal pain, stressing that "his life is now at risk."
ADHRB further stated that "although his family expected him to be among those released due to his poor health and age, Bahrain's government is still adamant in targeting human rights defenders."
ADHRB also echoed AlRamal's family in holding the Jaw Prison administration, the Ombudsman, and the Bahrain Public Prosecution responsible for depriving him of treatment and for the inhumane treatment, calling for urgent action.
AlRamal's family called to end the slow death of the political prisoner and his denied treatment for years. His family said that the Jaw Prison admin isolated him in a cell that lacks electricity, AC, water, and other basic life necessities, in reprisal, adding that he's also denied adequate meals.
