Reuters: Bahrain prosecutors on Monday filed new charges against a man believed by rights activists to be the Gulf state's most prominent jailed democracy campaigner, Nabeel Rajab, after the New York Times published an op-ed under his byline.

The Public Prosecution opened a new case against the prominent human rights activist Nabeel Rajab over publishing an article in the New York Times on Sunday (September 4, 2016) entitled “Letter from a Bahraini Jail”.

A Bahraini watchdog says the country's leading activist, Nabeel Rajab, has been charged with publishing "false news and statements and malicious rumors that undermine the prestige of the kingdom," a day after his letter appeared in The New York Times.
