The Bahraini government is easing measures for combating the Coronavirus pandemic and life is returning to the island nation. Malls, restaurants and cafes have resumed their work. People can now meet with each other, except for prisoners, who no one speaks about. They have been deprived of family visits for about 8 months.

Professor Tom Collins, former Head of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland in Bahrain, said "all medics, all over the world, should call on regimes to grant political dissenters an amnesty."

Deputy Director of Human Rights Watch in South Asia urged the Bahraini government to release prisoners after the Coronavirus outbreak.

On March 16, 2020, the Head of Public Security in Bahrain, Tariq al-Hassan, appeared during the press conference of the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus, and said, "Certain buildings inside prisons were designated for isolation or quarantine in anticipation of any case, and we assure you that sterilization operations are continuing in all detention centers..."

Bahraini activists continue to call for the release of the largest number of political detainees and prisoners of conscience amid the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) across the world. They are pushing the authorities to empty Bahraini prisons of political prisoners in light of the worrying situation.

Bahrainis voiced an urgent appeal via Twitter demanding the authorities in Manama to release political prisoners to save them from the risk of contracting the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Najah Yousif, a Bahraini woman, told the BCC Arabic that she was tortured and raped in a security complex after protesting against Formula One in 2017.
