A member of the Board of Commissioners in the National Human Rights Institution (NIHR), former MP Khalid Al-Shaer, won the Vice-President post by acclamation, during the first meeting of the Board of Commissioners after the issuance of the royal decree.

Commenting on the 2014 annual report of Bahrain’s National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), the Human Rights and Liberties Department of Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society expressed its deep disappointment regarding its content stressing that it is “far from reality”, and has disregarded many of the blatant violations taking place.

Bahrain Mirror: The Bahrain Forum for Human Rights (BFHR) said that the NHRI was supposed to take initiative in following up the details of violations documented by the HRW report and be independent in its decision making. It shouldn’t be a partner in the practice of impunity.”

Bahrain Mirror: National Human Rights Institution (NHRI), a Bahraini state organization, said that Human Rights Watch (HRW) report ignored the role and the effort exerted by the institution and the positive results that were achieved and that are linked to the improvement of the human rights situation.
